The dramatically improved PSVR2 rails shooter The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR – which was a dismal experience on day one – has quietly added a Horde Mode in a free post-release update. The press release teases: “New horde mode! Will you survive the rooms of doom?”
It adds: “On this sinister horror rollercoaster, you are being dragged right back down to hell – you’ll be confronted by swarms of enemies in this new nightmarish mode, complete each room to get increasingly harder enemies and survive attacks from all manner of hideous apparitions straight from the depths of the hell.”
The blurb teases that players can expect more “extreme” rollercoaster rides than in the core campaign – a common complaint aimed at the release back at launch. “Hold on tight as your cart hits new speeds and even bigger drops,” developer Supermassive Games says.
The update is available now as a free expansion pack for the core game. You may recall that this title originally launched in a sorry state, but the UK-based developer spent a lot of time improving the experience in a post-release patch, which massively improved the visuals and loading times.

This is awesome news and convinced me to finally buy the game, which also happens to be on sale right now!
The game looks so good now! I canned it for a while due to other games, didn't finish it yet but i picked it up again yesterday and am having a blast! Such good black levels in the game, when it's dark it's really pitch black
Anyone got any experience with this since it patched?
Also, any multiplayer suggestions? I've been playing Nock and C-Smash and loving them. Got After the Fall which is alright and Broken Edge which is eh.
Please Pushsquare could we have more reviews of VR games. 😀😀
@Dobbos If you don't already, check out PSVR2 Without Parole on YouTube. It's by far, the best place to go for PSVR2 content.
Nice to hear they’ve added more rollercoaster sections. That was probably the only thing that disappointed me about the game at launch.
Looking forward to trying the new mode out.
@Dobbos Pishsquare doesn’t think there are any VR games sadly.
@Leeg in fairness Pushsquare did alot of reviews at launch nowadays not so much.
@R_Ryder thank you will definitely check it out. 👍👍
Im tempted to pick this up but cant seem to step off the fence
@R_Ryder It is a brilliant channel. It covers everything VR2 related and in a really decent, no filler way.
I've been introduced to countless VR2 games I hadn't heard of before.
I adore this game. I didn't get it at launch so thankfully managed to avoid the initial problems.
And, if you're listening Supermassive Games, a port of Rush of Blood would be super massively welcome.
@LordAinsley I purchased after the big patch. An the game is my favourite vr2 game. I am onto my second playthrough. Second time around I play in story mode, auto reload. Amazing graphics. Shooting amazing.
The last level or two are not as fun as the first levels. I only come across one bug, and reloaded from the checkpoint. Loading time between levels can be a pain. But during game no problem.
Definitely worth the buy. Pushsquare should redo there review
Cheers
@LordAinsley Yep finally bought it last week and it's great. I don't even usually like rail shooters like that but it's high quality, including the visuals.
